President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has paid tribute to the founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, Reverend Uma Ukpai, describing him as a man who remained steadfast in God’s calling until his passing at the age of 80.

Akpabio noted that for several decades, the renowned international evangelist, who spread the gospel across the world and led many souls to Christ, operated his ministry from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

In a personally signed tribute, the Senate President referred to Evangelist Ukpai as “God’s General”, emphasizing that he lived a life dedicated to divine service and the betterment of humanity.

“Today, we mourn the passing of God’s General, Evangelist Uma Ukpai, whose transition has plunged the body of Christ and humanity into deep sorrow.

He was not just an evangelist who won souls for God, but also a beacon of light who inspired countless lives,” Akpabio said.

He added that Evangelist Ukpai’s unwavering devotion to spreading God’s word globally stood as a testament to his faith and purpose, leaving behind a legacy of hope and transformation.

Akpabio also highlighted the late preacher’s humanitarian contributions, noting that he established schools and healthcare facilities to cater to the educational and medical needs of his community.

“His passing has left an indelible mark on the hearts of many. Though this is a great loss to the body of Christ, we take comfort in knowing that Heaven has gained another angel. He has joined the heavenly choir to sing praises before God,” Akpabio stated.

He concluded by praying for comfort for Ukpai’s wife, Pastor Philomena Uma Ukpai, his family, and the entire Christian community, urging them to take solace in the lasting impact of his life and ministry.

“He fought a good fight, finished his course, and kept the faith. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of many,” Akpabio said.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
