Mystery in Akwa Ibom as Police Probe Man’s Death in Church While Sleeping with Family
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has launched an investigation into the suspicious death of a 45-year-old man, Mr. Udeme Sunday Uko, who was found dead inside a church in Ikot Oku Usung village, Ukanafun Local Government Area.
According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, the incident occurred around 12:10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. Mr. Uko had been sleeping inside the church with his wife and children when a gunshot suddenly rang out.
“The victim was discovered to have been shot in the head, suggesting either suicide or a targeted attack. A locally made pistol was found at the scene and recovered as evidence,” DSP John said.
The police were alerted by concerned citizens who had been contacted by the victim’s wife. Officers promptly arrived at the church and secured the area. The deceased’s body has since been moved to the mortuary for autopsy.
Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has ordered a thorough and swift investigation to uncover the truth and ensure justice is served.
The police have promised to keep the public updated as the investigation unfolds.
