Carlos Alcaraz is back on top of the tennis world. The 22-year-old Spaniard reclaimed the US Open crown on Sunday, defeating Italy’s Jannik Sinner in four sets (6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4) to win his second title at Flushing Meadows and his sixth Grand Slam overall.

With the victory, Alcaraz also reclaimed the world number one ranking, marking a triumphant return to the spot he last held in 2023.

Speaking after the win, Alcaraz described the moment as “incredible.”

“The number one (ranking) is a goal I set almost at the beginning of the year. To achieve it on the same day as winning another Grand Slam feels even better,” he said.

This latest triumph represents more than just another title for Alcaraz—it signals his transformation from a fearless young star to a composed, mature champion.

“The first US Open was about my youth. This one is more about maturity. Little by little I’m growing, and learning how to deal with different situations,” he explained.

After losing to Sinner in the Wimbledon final earlier this year, Alcaraz admitted he needed to raise his game. His performance in New York proved that he did just that, dropping only one set throughout the entire tournament—the second set of the final.

“I feel like this is the best tournament I’ve ever played. The consistency of my level has been really high, and I’m proud of that,” he added.

His coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, praised his evolution since winning his first Grand Slam in 2022.

“Back then, he was still playing on impulse. Today, he’s calmer, more experienced, and knows how to read the big moments,” Ferrero said, though he emphasized there is still room for growth.

Looking ahead, Alcaraz has already set his sights on completing the career Grand Slam by adding an Australian Open trophy to his collection.

“It’s my first goal. If it’s not next year, then in two, three, or four—I just want to complete it,” he said.

With his confidence soaring, Alcaraz leaves New York on a 13-match winning streak and with his seventh title of the season, reaffirming his place as the face of tennis’s new generation.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
