Liverpool could have secured a record-equaling 20th English title with a win at the King Power Stadium and an Arsenal loss. However, second-placed Arsenal didn’t make things easy earlier in the day.

Trent Alexander-Arnold's late goal gave Liverpool a 1-0 victory, bringing them close to the Premier League title and sending Leicester down to the Championship.

This happened after Arsenal’s 4-0 demolition of Ipswich delayed Liverpool's title celebrations on Sunday.

Thanks to Arsenal's dominant performance at Portman Road, Liverpool now needs to secure six points from their final six games to win their first title since 2020.

Liverpool now hold a 13-point lead over Arsenal, with both teams having five games left, thanks to Alexander-Arnold's match-winning impact after coming off the bench.

The Reds will clinch the title if Arsenal lose to Crystal Palace at home on Wednesday or if they defeat Tottenham at Anfield on April 27.

Despite a host of chances for the visitors, it appeared to be a frustrating day for Liverpool as second-bottom Leicester managed to keep them at bay.

In the 76th minute, Slot’s team finally made the breakthrough when Alexander-Arnold fired home the rebound from close range, following Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota both hitting the crossbar.

With growing speculation that Alexander-Arnold might join Real Madrid when his contract expires at the end of the season, the England right-back's wild celebration after scoring stood out.

He earned a booking for tearing off his shirt and placing it on the corner flag after sprinting to 3,000 jubilant Liverpool fans in one corner of the King Power.

“It took us a long time and, of course, a great moment for Trent after working so hard to come back. To score the goal that makes a lot of difference is very special,” Slot said.

“It’s never hard to dream (of the title), but you see we are really focused on playing Tottenham.”

After a memorable victory over Real Madrid on Wednesday, securing a Champions League semi-final spot for the first time since 2009, Arsenal ensured that Liverpool couldn't begin their title celebrations this weekend.

Liverpool’s title triumph is just a matter of time, but Leicester’s miserable one-year stay in the topflight ended with a 23rd defeat in 33 league games, condemning them to next season in the Championship.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
