ALONSO EXPLAINS REAL MADRID’S DEFEAT TO MAN CITY
Real Madrid manager, Xabi Alonso, has offered insight into why his side fell 2-1 to Manchester City in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash.
Addressing journalists after the match, Alonso admitted that his players were not fully switched on mentally, which affected their performance.
Manchester City secured the victory through goals from Nico O’Reilly and Erling Haaland, while Rodrygo found the net for the Spanish giants at the Santiago Bernabeu.
“It was a very intense game with different phases. We started well with Rodrygo’s goal and created a few more chances,” Alonso said. “But when you are not fully focused, a lot can change quickly. In just ten minutes, they turned the game around with a corner and a penalty.”
He added that despite the challenges the team is currently facing, including several injuries, the players kept fighting until the final whistle.
Real Madrid will now turn their attention to their upcoming LaLiga away match against Alaves this weekend.
