The Anambra State Government has dismissed reports circulating on social media about plans to build a second airport in Ndikelionwu, Orumba North Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, said there is no such project in the pipeline. He explained that less than four years after the inauguration of the Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport in Umueri, the government has no immediate plans for another airport.

Mefor described the report as “false, speculative, and a distraction from anti-government individuals.”

According to him, the rumours may have been triggered by the recent visit to the Anambra Mixed-use Industrial City (AMIC) site, where technical investigations are ongoing. He clarified that while the AMIC master plan envisions future infrastructure such as railways and possibly an airport to support industrial and urban growth, no decision has been made yet.

“The final master plan integrates AMIC, a pharmaceutical hub, and a new global-standard city with innovation centers, healthcare, education, tourism, business districts, and housing clusters to drive industrialisation and growth,” Mefor explained.

He stressed that if government decides to build a railway or airport for AMIC in the future, the public will be duly informed through official channels.

The commissioner urged residents to disregard the false report and rely only on government-approved announcements for accurate updates on major projects in the state.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
