The Anambra State Government has announced plans to construct a second airport in the state, this time at Ndikelionwu in Orumba North Local Government Area.

Speaking during a site inspection, Engr. Martins Emeka Nwafor, Managing Director of Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport and chairman of the newly formed Airport and Aerotropolis Committee, said the project would serve as a major driver of economic growth.

According to him, the new airport will not just be an aviation facility but part of an aerotropolis—a modern airport city that integrates aviation infrastructure with commercial, residential, and logistics facilities.

“This project will unlock new economic opportunities, attract investments, and accelerate industrialisation in Anambra State,” Nwafor explained.

Community leaders, including Hon. Fabian Nwosu, former President-General of Ndikelionwu Welfare Association, and Hon. Ifesinachi Chukwurah Onwurah, Vice President of Ndikelionwu, expressed gratitude to the government for bringing such a development to their community. They pledged full support and cooperation to ensure the project’s success.

The inspection team also included Prof. Charles O. Ofoegbu, MD/CEO of Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited; AVM Ben Chiobi (Rtd.), SSA to the Governor on Security; architect Chukwudi Ezenwa, alongside geologists, geophysicists, traditional leaders, and community elders.

If completed, the new airport—together with the existing Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport—will position Anambra as an aviation hub, boosting trade, tourism, and job creation.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
