Beninese-French music legend and Grammy award winner, Angélique Kidjo, has showered praises on Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Rema, for his remarkable rise on the global stage.

The veteran singer lauded the 24-year-old star while celebrating his latest recognition on the TIME 100 Next list, describing him as a true representation of Africa’s originality and global influence.

Kidjo revealed her admiration for Rema’s hit single “Calm Down”, saying the song stood out for its unique African rhythm and global appeal.

“I fell in love with Rema’s Calm Down. It has a unique flow and feel, not mimicking Western pop. It is rooted in Africa but also catchy and virtuosic. I love to sing it. The young Nigerian superstar has accomplished so much. Rema is the embodiment of the international success of Afrobeats. Rema, who continues to cement his place as one of Afrobeats’ biggest exports, humbly acknowledged the praise from the African icon, commenting:
