The Anioma State Creation Technical Committee has said the proposed Anioma State possesses the infrastructure and economic capacity to function effectively if created.

This was disclosed by the committee’s Media and Publicity Director, Tonnie Oganah, who highlighted key facilities such as airports, courts, schools, and administrative institutions in Asaba as indicators of readiness.

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has been a leading figure in the campaign, noting that the proposal has gained significant traction within the National Assembly.

Also lending support, Godswill Akpabio reaffirmed strong legislative backing for the initiative, describing it as a long-standing demand rooted in fairness and inclusive development.

According to the committee, the creation of Anioma State would boost economic growth, create jobs, expand infrastructure, and improve political representation for the people.

Oganah stated that while over 70 traditional rulers support the proposal, a few remain opposed, urging stakeholders to prioritise long-term development over political interests.

He added that the bill has passed critical stages in the National Assembly and is awaiting a third reading before harmonisation between both chambers, after which it will proceed to a referendum to be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Despite political complexities, the committee expressed confidence that the decades-long agitation for Anioma State, which dates back over 70 years, is now closer to becoming a reality.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
