A suspected electricity cable vandal has lost his life after being electrocuted in Aba, Abia State — the third such incident in the city in just three months.

The yet-to-be-identified man, believed to be about 35 years old, was found hanging lifeless on a transformer stand along Omuma Road in the early hours of Tuesday.

Although the exact time of the incident could not be determined, residents suggested that the man may have been electrocuted overnight while attempting to vandalize the transformer.

Eyewitnesses at the scene expressed concern over the growing menace of electricity vandalism in Aba, saying it often leaves communities in darkness and poses serious safety risks.

While many residents condemned the act, others urged the authorities to thoroughly investigate the case to rule out any foul play.

This is not the first time such an incident has happened in the city. In May 2025, a suspected vandal was electrocuted in the Ogbo Hill area. Again, on July 24, 2025, another man lost his life in a similar incident at Ehi Road, before this latest tragedy at Omuma Road.

The recurring cases highlight both the dangers of tampering with electrical installations and the urgent need for stronger measures to protect power infrastructure in the city.
