APC DENIES ADAMAWA LP CANDIDATE’S CLAIMS OF PRIMARY IRREGULARITIES
The All Progressives Congress in Adamawa State has dismissed allegations of irregularities in its primary elections, following claims made by the Labour Party senatorial candidate for Adamawa South, Peter Fwa.
Fwa had accused the APC of lacking internal democracy, alleging that the party’s primary process was marred by injustice and unfair candidate substitutions before he eventually left the party.
Speaking on Monday, Fwa said he resigned from the APC after about 10 years of membership, insisting that party leaders failed to uphold fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity for aspirants.
He also alleged that some governorship aspirants were suddenly converted to senatorial candidates, while others were reassigned to different positions without a proper process.
Reacting to the claims, the APC in Adamawa State described Fwa’s allegations as false and an attempt to tarnish the party’s reputation.
The party’s spokesman, Victor Dogo, insisted that the primaries were conducted openly and transparently, adding that journalists and stakeholders were present to observe the exercise.
“We conducted primaries openly; the media covered the exercise, people lined up to vote for their preferred candidates, so where is the injustice?” Dogo said.
He challenged the Labour Party and other political parties to provide evidence of irregularities in their own primary elections in the state.
Fwa, who recently won the Labour Party senatorial ticket for Adamawa South, expressed confidence in his chances ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying he is relying on grassroots support to secure victory.
He is expected to contest against Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe, who has defected from the APC to the African Democratic Congress, and Felix Tangwami, who is also in the race for the senatorial seat.
Both Fwa and Tangwami are from the Demsa Local Government Area in southern Adamawa.
