The All Progressives Congress has officially scheduled its presidential primary election for May 23, 2026, as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The ruling party also dismissed reports claiming the exercise had been postponed, describing the information circulating online as false and misleading.

In a statement released on Wednesday, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka said the party’s timetable remains unchanged despite speculations on social media and other platforms.

According to the schedule released by the APC, the primary election for the House of Representatives will hold on May 15, 2026, while the Senate primary is fixed for May 18.

The State House of Assembly primary election is expected to take place on May 20, followed by the governorship primary on May 21.

The party’s presidential primary, which is expected to determine the APC’s flag bearer for the 2027 election, has been scheduled for May 23.

The development signals the official start of political maneuvering within the ruling party as aspirants and party stakeholders begin strategic consultations ahead of the election season.

Meanwhile, the APC has also commenced the screening of incumbent governors as part of its internal preparation process for the 2027 polls.

Governors who reportedly appeared before the screening committee include Abba Yusuf, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, Nasir Idris, Caleb Mutfwang and Hyacinth Alia.

Others screened include Sheriff Oborevwori, Umar Bago, Dauda Lawal, Bassey Otu and Ahmed Aliyu.

The screening exercise is seen as part of the party’s broader strategy to assess incumbents and strengthen internal coordination ahead of what is expected to be a highly competitive 2027 election cycle.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
