APC GOVERNORS ANTICIPATE MORE DEFECTIONS, POINT TO INCREASING POPULARITY OF PARTY’S LEADERSHIP
Governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) have predicted that more defections will occur, citing the growing admiration for the APC-led government in Nigeria. They are confident that the party’s influence at the state level will continue to expand, with additional governors likely to join in the near future.
The emergency meeting, chaired by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, who also leads the Progressive Governors Forum, saw the participation of APC governors from Cross River, Edo, Kogi, and Ekiti States, along with the party's National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje. The discussions centered on integrating new members into the party and managing its increasing success, particularly in Delta, where APC support is rapidly growing.
Uzodinma singled out Delta State, describing it as "almost a one-party state," attributing the shift to the increasing approval of the APC government. He expressed confidence that the trend would continue, stating, “The tide is moving, and people are joining. It won’t stop.” He stressed that the party's success in Delta serves as evidence of the growing support for the APC across Nigeria.
The governors also discussed how to integrate both old and new members in Delta State, focusing on maintaining party unity and supporting local government efforts for the benefit of citizens. While Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was absent from the meeting, Uzodinma invited journalists to visit Asaba for further discussions with the governor.
With defections to the APC rising, party leaders are optimistic that this momentum will continue leading up to the 2027 presidential elections. Strengthening the party’s base at the state level is seen as key to consolidating power and preparing for upcoming political challenges.
