APC KICKS OFF RIVERS LG ELECTION CAMPAIGN, DECLARES PARTY UNITED AND READY TO WIN
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially launched its campaign for the August 30 local government elections in Rivers State, declaring the party united, strong, and ready to deliver grassroots development.
Speaking at the flag-off rally in Port Harcourt, the APC South-South Vice Chairman, Victor Giadom, represented by former Senator Magnus Abe, dismissed claims of division within the party.
“The APC in Rivers State is united. We are strong, and we are ready to deliver the dividends of democracy to the grassroots,” Giadom said, urging members to work together and uphold the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He told the party’s local government chairmanship and councillorship candidates that they now represent the face of President Bola Tinubu’s vision in the state and expressed confidence that they would not disappoint.
State APC Chairman, Tony Okocha, explained that the party chose to participate in the polls because it believes the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) is following proper processes under its current leadership.
Okocha contrasted this with past LG elections under the dissolved RSIEC board, led by retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli, which the party boycotted, calling them a “charade.”
He also expressed optimism that the APC would win across all 23 local government areas and 319 wards in the state, adding that the party’s focus on strengthening its grassroots presence is part of a larger strategy to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We are not just testing the waters on August 30—we are going to contest and win,” Okocha said, while urging members to campaign peacefully.
The rally ended with the presentation of party flags to candidates, with leaders reaffirming their commitment to keeping the APC at the forefront of Rivers State politics.
