APC LEADER JESUTEGA ONOKPASA CRITIQUES PRESIDENT TINUBU’S ADMINISTRATION, WARNS OF ONE-TERM PRESIDENCY
Jesutega Onokpasa, a senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has sharply criticized President Bola Tinubu's administration, claiming that the president has "failed woefully" in his governance. In an interview with Arise Television on Sunday, Onokpasa voiced concerns over the administration’s performance, cautioning that President Tinubu could face the prospect of being a one-term president if he does not improve his leadership.
Onokpasa’s remarks reflect rising dissatisfaction within the APC, as he stressed that the party should focus on governance rather than celebrating the defection of opposition figures. He pointed out that the recent shift of opposition leaders into the APC has not brought any meaningful benefits to the party or to the people of Nigeria.
The APC chieftain also commented on the recent defection of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, to the APC. Despite referring to the governor as his cousin, Onokpasa revealed that he was unaware of Oborevwori’s decision to join the ruling party. “I don’t have the slightest idea why he defected to our party. I wish him well,” Onokpasa stated. He further stressed that while defections may have political significance, they should not overshadow the party's obligation to govern effectively.
Onokpasa emphasized that the key issue was whether the APC was fulfilling its promises to the Nigerian people. He remarked, “It’s not about people defecting to our party. The real question is whether we are governing well. In that regard, we have failed miserably.” He also criticized the administration for its inability to tackle pressing issues such as food security and providing relief during tough economic times.
With internal dissatisfaction growing, Onokpasa's comments add to the pressure on the APC as it prepares for the 2027 presidential elections, with the party needing to show tangible progress in governance to avoid further discontent.
