APC LEADERS DISMISS RIVAL CLAIMS IN AGEGE PRIMARY CONTROVERSY
The leadership of the All Progressives Congress in Agege and Orile-Agege areas of Lagos State has reaffirmed that High Chief Ganiyu Egunjobi and Barrister Azeez Ninalowo won the party’s primaries for Agege Constituency 01 and 02, respectively.
Egunjobi, a former Chairman of Agege Local Government, was declared the winner of the Agege Constituency 01 primary held on Wednesday, an exercise reportedly monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The primary, conducted across five wards, saw Egunjobi polling 9,132 votes, while his closest rivals trailed behind.
According to a statement by Egunjobi’s media aide, Rotimi Sulyman, stakeholders, including traditional rulers, Baales, traders, and artisans’ associations, met to review the outcome of the primaries and expressed satisfaction with the process.
APC chieftain, Adisa Adaranijo, commended party members for the peaceful conduct of the exercise, describing rival claims against the declared outcome as misleading.
He insisted that Egunjobi won “in full view of electoral officers,” dismissing reports suggesting otherwise as unfounded.
Adaranijo also criticised the opposition claimants within the party, alleging that some aspirants had distanced themselves from party activities yet still attempted to contest outcomes.
He further accused rival factions of spreading misinformation about the process, insisting that the party remains united and structured.
Reacting to the controversy, Lagos Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa said dissident voices were responsible for circulating false narratives about the primaries.
He stressed that only active participants in party activities could legitimately lay claim to outcomes of internal elections.
However, supporters of rival aspirant Gbenga Abiola, popularly known as “Agbelebu,” rejected the results, alleging that no proper primary election took place in designated voting centres.
The Agbelebu Solidarity Forum insisted that the process was flawed and accused organisers of intimidation and disenfranchisement of party members.
Both sides continue to trade accusations as tensions persist within the APC over the legitimacy of the Agege Constituency primaries ahead of the 2027 elections.
