APC PRIMARY: 55 CHAIRMANSHIP CANDIDATES EMERGE FOR LAGOS LG POLLS

Fifty-five out of the anticipated 57 All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidates have been selected for the upcoming July 12 local government elections in Lagos State.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the candidates emerged during the party’s primaries held on Saturday in Ikeja. While some candidates were chosen through delegate voting, others were selected via consensus arrangements.

Out of 1,539 expected delegates across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), 27 delegates voted in each council where the primary was conducted. However, no primaries took place in Yaba and Mainland LCDAs due to ongoing legal issues, resulting in the absence of delegates in those areas.

Announcing the results, the Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee, Mr. Babatunde Ogala, confirmed that four candidates emerged through consensus and were ratified by delegates:

Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee, Mr. Babatunde Ogala, has officially declared the full list of chairmanship candidates who emerged from the party’s primaries for the July 12 local government elections in Lagos State.

In addition to the earlier announced consensus candidates, Ogala listed more winners from the delegate voting process. Among those confirmed were:

Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA – Hameed Aroyehun

Ojokoro LCDA – Oluyemisi Rosiji

Kosofe LG – Moyosore Ogunlewe

Surulere LG – Suleiman Yusuf

Meanwhile, NAN reported that some aspirants and their agents raised objections to the outcomes in certain LGAs. Acknowledging the concerns, Ogala admitted that minor human errors might have occurred during the process. He advised the aggrieved parties to pursue their cases through the APC Appeal Committee, which reserves the right to overturn any decision based on presented evidence.

Ogala also commended the delegates for their cooperation and described the primaries as transparent and conducted in the party’s best interest. Councillorship primaries were simultaneously held across wards throughout the state.
