APC SCREENING COMMITTEE DISQUALIFIES VETERAN LAWMAKER WOLE OKE FROM OBOKUN-ORIADE RE-ELECTION BID
The All Progressives Congress (All Progressives Congress) Screening Committee has disqualified lawmaker Wole Oke from participating in the party’s primary election for the Obokun-Oriade Federal Constituency in Osun State.
According to reports, Oke was screened out on Wednesday in Abuja after appearing before the committee, effectively ending his latest bid to return to the National Assembly.
Sources familiar with the process said the decision was influenced by zoning arrangements within the constituency, which reportedly favour candidates from Oriade Local Government Area over Obokun, where Oke hails from.
Party insiders further explained that members of the screening panel were of the view that the APC ticket should be micro-zoned to Oriade, a factor that worked against the veteran lawmaker.
Oke, who has represented the Obokun-Oriade Federal Constituency for 24 consecutive years in the House of Representatives, had been seeking what would have been his seventh term in office.
His disqualification now brings an abrupt halt to one of the longest-serving legislative careers in the constituency’s political history.
The lawmaker was first elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (Peoples Democratic Party) before defecting to the APC last year.
Beyond his legislative record, Oke recently emerged as the Director-General of the APC campaign council for the upcoming August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun State.
In that race, the APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji is expected to challenge incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party.
The screening outcome adds a new layer of tension within the APC in Osun State as the party intensifies preparations for both legislative and governorship contests ahead of the 2026 elections.
