APM RAISES THE ALARM OVER RISING SECURITY CHALLENGES IN LAGOS
The Allied People’s Movement (APM) in Lagos State has expressed concern over what it described as increasing security challenges across the state, citing reports of kidnappings, armed robbery, cult-related violence, and other criminal activities.
The party said the situation has heightened fear among residents and raised questions about the effectiveness of existing security measures in the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr Ayodele Kazeem, said recent reports and social media videos have further intensified public concern about criminal activities in different communities.
He described Lagos as Nigeria’s economic hub, attracting millions of residents seeking opportunities, and warned that insecurity in the state could have wider national implications.
“Recent reports and videos circulating on social media have further amplified public concerns about the possibility of criminal elements infiltrating communities across the state,” he said.
Kazeem noted that while security agencies must verify such reports, security matters should not be treated with indifference, stressing that the protection of lives and property remains a top priority.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and security-conscious, warning that many criminal activities thrive due to delayed reporting of suspicious movements and behaviours.
“The Allied People’s Movement notes with concern that many criminal activities thrive because suspicious movements, behaviours and activities often go unreported until it is too late,” he said.
The party called for stronger collaboration between residents and security agencies, urging communities to provide timely information that could help prevent crime and improve safety.
Kazeem also advised residents to avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing panic, stressing the importance of responsible citizenship in addressing security challenges.
“Security is a collective responsibility that requires the active participation of everyone,” he said.
He reaffirmed APM’s commitment to policies and programmes aimed at improving safety, prosperity, and the well-being of Lagos residents.
