ARA EARNS STANDING OVATION FROM SHETTIMA, BRAZIL’S VP AT ASO ROCK
Nigeria’s Cultural Ambassador and Africa’s foremost female talking drummer, Aralola Olamuyiwa, popularly known as Ara, recently brought the Presidential Villa in Abuja to life with a stunning performance that earned her a standing ovation from Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, and Brazil’s Vice President, Geraldo Alckmin.
The special event, held in honour of the visiting Brazilian Vice President and his wife, turned into a rich display of cultural diplomacy and shared heritage. Ara, with her iconic talking drum, mesmerized the audience and showcased the beauty of Nigeria’s musical traditions.
Top dignitaries at the event included Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, the Brazilian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Carlos Garcete, and a host of esteemed guests from both nations.
In a heartfelt moment that captured the spirit of unity, Ara presented a uniquely branded talking drum to Vice President Alckmin. The gesture not only celebrated African heritage but also underscored the historical ties between Nigeria and Brazil—two countries connected by deep roots and shared ancestry.
The Brazilian Vice President was so moved that he rose from his seat to personally receive the drum, warmly applauding Ara’s artistry and Nigeria’s cultural hospitality.
Reflecting on the experience, Ara said, “It was more than a performance. It was a bridge between continents, a moment of mutual respect and shared rhythm. I am deeply honored.”
The event highlighted the growing cultural relationship between Nigeria and Brazil, proving once again how music and tradition can unite people across borders.
