AREGBESOLA ACCEPTS ROLE AS ADC NATIONAL SECRETARY, CALLS FOR VALUE-DRIVEN POLITICS
Former Osun State Governor and ex-Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has officially accepted his appointment as the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Aregbesola shared the news on Wednesday through a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, where he expressed gratitude and set a high bar for what political parties should represent.
“It is with deep humility, a profound sense of duty, and unwavering hope for our people, nation, race, and party, that I accept the appointment as the National Secretary of our great party,” he wrote, thanking the party leadership for their trust and acknowledging committed members who still believe politics can truly serve the common good.
In a clear message distancing himself from transactional politics, Aregbesola emphasized that a political party should not be a platform for personal ambition or mere opportunism.
“A political party, in its truest form, is a living institution built on values, guided by ideals, and accountable to the people it seeks to serve,” he said.
Drawing inspiration from the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa, Aregbesola highlighted how political movements grounded in ideology and people-centered struggles have historically driven meaningful change.
“The ANC is not perfect, but it stands for something. It was forged in resistance, sharpened by vision, and led by men and women who believe in justice, dignity, equality, inclusivity of all interests, and true freedom,” he noted.
He praised the ANC’s character and soul, urging that political parties in Nigeria and across Africa should aspire to be platforms that genuinely express the hopes and dreams of their people.
Aregbesola’s acceptance of this new role signals a renewed push for value-driven politics within the ADC, and potentially across Nigeria’s broader political landscape.
