AREWA GROUP BACKS AKPABIO, CALLS FOR VERIFICATION OF VIRAL 2027 CLAIM
An Arewa group has expressed support for Senate President Godswill Akpabio while urging Nigerians to exercise caution over a viral claim circulating ahead of the 2027 general elections. The group called on members of the public to verify the authenticity of political statements attributed to prominent figures before accepting or sharing them as facts.
The organisation said the information being circulated on social media should not be treated as established fact without confirmation from credible sources. It urged Nigerians, particularly political supporters and social media users, to avoid spreading unverified claims that could create unnecessary tension or mislead the public as political activities ahead of 2027 continue to gather momentum.
The group’s position also amounted to an expression of confidence in Akpabio’s leadership of the National Assembly. It maintained that political disagreements should be handled through constructive engagement rather than misinformation, stressing the importance of responsible public discussion as Nigeria approaches another election cycle.
The development comes amid increasing political activities ahead of the 2027 elections, with politicians, interest groups and supporters already positioning themselves for the contest. Various claims and endorsements relating to potential candidates have continued to circulate online, making verification increasingly important as political conversations intensify.
The Arewa group therefore urged Nigerians to rely on credible news organisations, official statements and verifiable sources when assessing political claims. It warned that spreading unconfirmed information could distort public perception and unnecessarily heighten political tensions ahead of the elections.
