According to reports, Turkish club Göztepe have set their sights on Southampton midfielder Joe Aribo as a primary target for the upcoming summer transfer window.

UK-based website TransferFeed reports that Joe Aribo is “open to the prospect of relocating to Göztepe,” in a move that would reconnect him with familiar figures linked to Southampton’s ownership.

Rasmus Ankersen, the Danish president of Göztepe and a key figure at Sports Republic—the group that owns Southampton—has played a significant role in establishing strong ties between both clubs.

According to the report, Ankersen “plans to use his majority ownership in both Göztepe and Sports Republic to ease the transfer of players from Southampton,” taking advantage of the synergy between the two organisations to strengthen Göztepe’s squad.

With one year left on his Southampton contract, Joe Aribo—born in London but representing Nigeria internationally—is reportedly weighing his options, as he appears reluctant to continue playing in the English Championship.

After joining Southampton from Rangers in 2022, Aribo experienced a turbulent period in the Premier League, followed by reduced playing time after the club’s relegation. These developments have contributed to growing uncertainty around his future at the club.

According to TransferFeed, the 28-year-old midfielder is “open to the prospect of relocating to Göztepe,” with the Turkish side “eagerly waiting for his positive response.” The move would reunite Aribo with key figures in Southampton’s ownership group, thanks to the strong connection between the two clubs.

Should the deal go through, Aribo would likely be one of the most prominent additions to Göztepe’s squad ahead of their return to top-tier football. His international pedigree with the Super Eagles, coupled with his technical prowess and European experience, positions him as a potential game-changer for the Turkish club.

The club is also reportedly keeping tabs on fellow Southampton player and Nigerian international Paul Onuachu as a potential addition to their squad.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
