The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of one of its personnel for allegedly selling ammunition to terrorists in Borno State.

According to military sources, Lance Corporal Saifullahi Garba (14NA/72/15972) was arrested in Marte Local Government Area with 711 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition in his possession. Preliminary investigations revealed that he had been diverting ammunition recovered during clearance operations with the intention of supplying it to terrorists. He has since been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and prosecution.

Meanwhile, troops in Bama intercepted terrorist logistics and recovered an additional 379 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. In other operations across Borno and Yobe, soldiers recovered two AK-47 rifles, 11 rounds of ammunition, and neutralised a terrorist during ambush missions.

The Army also recorded significant successes in other regions:

North-Central: Troops rescued eight kidnapped victims in Nasarawa and recovered 579 rustled cattle along with two AK-47 rifles from armed herders in Taraba.

South-South: Troops of Operation Delta Safe arrested 10 armed suspects in Rivers State disguised in OSPAC uniforms, seizing five pump-action rifles, charms, cash worth ₦1.7 million, and other items. A separate raid in Ahoada East led to the neutralisation of two cult leaders.

Military authorities emphasised that the arrest of Lance Corporal Garba highlights the Army’s commitment not only to fighting external threats but also to confronting betrayal within its own ranks.

“These operations show the Army’s determination to deny terrorists and criminals freedom of action while dealing decisively with any insider threats,” a source said.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
