ARMY RESCUES 12 KIDNAP VICTIMS, ARRESTS TWO SUSPECTS IN ENUGU
The Nigerian Army says its troops have rescued 12 kidnapped victims and arrested two suspects during a security operation in Ette Community, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
In a statement on Saturday, the Army said the operation was carried out by troops of the 82 Division Nigerian Army under Operation Eastern Sanity following a distress call about the abduction of residents in the community.
According to the statement, the rescue mission took place on March 6, 2026, after security operatives received intelligence that suspected kidnappers had taken several victims to a nearby location.
The Army said troops swiftly mobilised in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, Forest Guards, and members of the Neighbourhood Watch to track down the criminals.
“Responding swiftly and with precision, the troops immediately mobilised in conjunction with police operatives, Forest Guards and members of the Neighbourhood Watch, advancing to the suspected area where the victims were believed to have been taken,” the statement said.
Upon reaching the location, troops launched aggressive search and fighting patrols to locate the kidnappers.
The Army said the criminals abandoned their captives and fled after being overwhelmed by the troops’ rapid response and superior firepower.
“All the 12 kidnapped victims were successfully rescued unharmed,” the statement added.
Two suspects linked to the kidnapping were arrested during the operation and are currently being interrogated to help security agencies track down other members of the gang.
The Army said troops under Operation Eastern Sanity have intensified patrols and surveillance across the area to strengthen security and reassure residents.
