The Nigerian Army has urged residents of Gombe State not to panic as it prepares to begin a routine shooting exercise scheduled for March 30 to 31, 2026.

In a statement issued by Lt. Kingsley Ugwuoke, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the exercise will be conducted by the 301 Artillery Regiment at its Small Arms Range in Liji.

Ugwuoke explained that the exercise is part of the Army’s regular training programme, carried out twice yearly to enhance operational efficiency and combat readiness among troops. He noted that it is designed to sharpen soldiers’ weapon-handling skills and assess the preparedness of personnel for battlefield duties and other assignments.

Residents living around Liji and nearby communities have been advised not to be alarmed by gunshots during the exercise. The Army also warned farmers and hunters to stay away from the shooting range area throughout the exercise period for safety reasons.

The Army further called on community leaders and the media to help spread awareness to ensure compliance and prevent unnecessary panic.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
