ARSENAL CRITICS ‘NOT LAUGHING ANYMORE’ AFTER TITLE TRIUMPH – SAKA
Bukayo Saka has said Arsenal’s critics are “not laughing anymore” after the club secured its first Premier League title in 22 years.
The Gunners were officially crowned champions on Tuesday after Manchester City played a 1-1 draw away to Bournemouth, leaving Arsenal F.C. with an unassailable four-point lead at the top of the table heading into the final round of matches.
Players and staff gathered at Arsenal’s London Colney training ground to celebrate the title triumph, while thousands of supporters also assembled outside the Emirates Stadium, where fireworks and flares lit up the atmosphere.
Arsenal had come under heavy criticism in recent seasons after finishing runners-up in the league three consecutive times, with some observers accusing the team of “bottling” the title race following their 2-1 defeat to Manchester City on April 19.
However, Arsenal responded strongly by winning their next four league matches without conceding a goal, while City dropped points against Everton and Bournemouth.
In a celebratory video shared by teammate Jurrien Timber on Instagram, Saka referenced the criticism Arsenal had faced over the years.
“Twenty-two years, 22 years. There was laughing, there was joking, they’re not laughing anymore,” Saka said.
The England winger also celebrated the moment Arsenal’s specially designed blacked-out Premier League trophy at the training ground lit up following confirmation of the title victory.
Young midfielder Myles Lewis-Skelly also reacted to the criticism in another celebratory clip shared online.
“They called us bottlers,” Lewis-Skelly said while holding a champagne bottle. “And now we’re holding the bottle.”
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta became one of the few figures to win the English top-flight title both as a player and manager.
Former Arsenal boss Arsène Wenger also congratulated the club in a celebratory message.
“You did it. Champions go on when others stop. This is your time,” Wenger said.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola praised Arteta and Arsenal for their achievement.
“On behalf of everyone at Manchester City, we congratulate Mikel and all the staff, players, and fans on winning the Premier League,” Guardiola said. “They deserve it.”
Arsenal will officially lift the Premier League trophy after their final league game against Crystal Palace F.C. on Sunday.
The club could still complete a historic double if they defeat Paris Saint-Germain F.C. in the UEFA Champions League final in Budapest on May 30.
