ARSENAL SECURE CHELSEA’S KEPA IN £5M DEAL AS GOALKEEPING BACKUP

Arsenal have added experienced shot-stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga to their squad in a £5 million move from Chelsea, as the Gunners aim to boost their goalkeeping department ahead of the new season.

The 30-year-old Spanish international, once the world’s most expensive goalkeeper after a £71 million switch to Chelsea in 2018, joins Arsenal as a backup to current number one David Raya. His arrival marks Arsenal's first signing of the summer transfer window.

Although Kepa never quite lived up to expectations at Stamford Bridge, he brings valuable top-flight and European experience to Mikel Arteta’s side, having spent the last two seasons on loan at Real Madrid and Bournemouth.

In a statement released by Arsenal, Kepa expressed optimism about the club’s chances this season.
“I think we are so close to winning and, hopefully, altogether, we can achieve it,” he said.

Kepa’s signing was made possible after Arsenal reportedly activated a £5 million buyout clause in a contract extension Chelsea had quietly agreed with the goalkeeper last year.

Manager Mikel Arteta welcomed the move, saying,
“We are really happy to have Kepa joining us.”

Arsenal have consistently come close to Premier League glory under Arteta, finishing second in the last three consecutive seasons, but have yet to lift a major trophy since winning the FA Cup in 2020.

Transfer activity at the Emirates is expected to heat up, with Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad nearing a move, and talks also progressing with Brentford captain Christian Norgaard.

With Kepa now on board, Arsenal are showing intent to build the depth and experience needed to finally get over the line and claim silverware.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
