ARTETA CONFIDENT ARSENAL CAN PERFORM HIGHER THAN LAST SEASON

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta believes his side can perform at a higher level than last season after maintaining their 100 per cent start to the Premier League campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Chelsea on Sunday.

The Gunners fell behind to Morgan Rogers’ early strike but responded with goals from Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard on either side of half-time to secure all three points at the Emirates Stadium.

Speaking after the match, Arteta described Arsenal’s performance as “exceptional” and said the victory was an indication of what his team could achieve this season.

The Spanish coach said Arsenal are capable of performing even better than they did last season, but stressed that the players must maintain their desire, humility and commitment to continuous improvement.

Arteta also praised captain Martin Odegaard, saying the midfielder’s current level of fitness and confidence is the highest he has seen from him.

The Arsenal manager believes Odegaard’s improved form has been influenced by his fitness, confidence and desire to make up for the amount of football he missed last season.

Arteta said the midfielder is also benefiting from developing a stronger understanding with his teammates and, importantly, enjoying his football.

According to the manager, Odegaard played with greater intent against Chelsea, making forward runs, taking shots and creating several opportunities for his teammates.

Arteta also highlighted Kai Havertz’s contribution to Arsenal’s strong start, saying the German forward appears happier and more settled at the club.

Havertz scored Arsenal’s equaliser against Chelsea and has also impressed with his overall contribution to the team.

Arteta said the forward is now feeling fit, training consistently and scoring goals while continuing to perform important work for the team.

The Arsenal boss believes the squad has significant room for further improvement, adding that several players can develop into even better versions of themselves.

He maintained that if the team and individual players continue to improve, everyone at the club will benefit from the progress.

Arsenal’s victory over Chelsea keeps their perfect Premier League record intact and gives Arteta’s side strong momentum as they continue their campaign.
