ASABA LANDING: DSS JOINS PROBE AS NCAA GROUNDS AIRCRAFT

The Department of State Services (DSS) has joined the investigation into the unauthorised landing of a private aircraft at the Asaba International Airport, as the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has grounded the aircraft pending the outcome of the probe.

The incident occurred on Thursday when the aircraft, reportedly carrying some high-profile passengers, landed at the airport without proper clearance. The NCAA immediately grounded the aircraft and initiated an investigation into the breach of aviation regulations.

The Director General of the NCAA, Capt. Chris Najomo, said the authority is treating the matter with utmost seriousness. “We have grounded the aircraft and are working with relevant agencies to determine the circumstances surrounding the unauthorised landing. Safety and regulatory compliance are non-negotiable,” Najomo stated.

The DSS has been brought into the investigation to ascertain if there was any security breach or criminal intent behind the incident. A joint investigative team has been set up to interview the crew, passengers, and airport officials.

The Delta State Government has also expressed concern over the incident and pledged full cooperation with the federal agencies. The state Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Collins Olori, said the government is committed to maintaining the highest safety standards at the Asaba International Airport.

Aviation experts have described the incident as a serious breach that could compromise airport security and operations. They called for stricter enforcement of protocols and better coordination among aviation agencies.

The NCAA has assured the public that the investigation will be thorough and transparent. It warned that any individual or organisation found culpable will face appropriate sanctions. The agency also urged all operators to strictly adhere to aviation regulations to prevent future occurrences.

The aircraft remains grounded at the Asaba International Airport as the joint investigation continues.
