ASAKE ONCE ACCEPTED ₦700 RICE AND A DRINK AS PERFORMANCE FEE – YEMI ELESHO
Popular Nigerian comedian Yemi Elesho has shared a fascinating insight into the hustle days of Afrobeats sensation Asake, revealing that the singer once accepted a plate of rice worth ₦700 and a bottle of Coca-Cola as payment for performances during their university days.
Elesho, who is the son of veteran Yoruba comic actor Adewale Elesho, made this revelation in a recent conversation with streamer Jigan. He reminisced about their friendship, which dates back to their time at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, where both were navigating the entertainment industry.
“I used to give Asake a ₦700 plate of rice and a bottle of Coca-Cola as performance fees for him to feature in movies during our undergraduate days at OAU,” Elesho said.
He described Asake as his “day one”, emphasizing that their bond was forged long before the singer's meteoric rise to fame.
Asake’s Early Passion for Entertainment
Beyond music, Elesho revealed that Asake once dabbled in acting and participated in celebrity football matches on campus.
“He is my very good friend. I have pictures and videos of our time together at OAU. We used to play celebrity football matches back in the day.”
This glimpse into Asake’s hustle phase highlights his relentless passion for entertainment, long before he became a household name in Nigeria and Africa’s music scene.
