ASPIRANT CRIES FOUL OVER BAUCHI SOUTH APC PRIMARY
An aspirant for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the All Progressives Congress, Abdulmumi Kundak, has alleged that no valid primary election was conducted in the district ahead of the party’s scheduled exercise on Monday.
Kundak made the claim while addressing journalists on Tuesday, calling on the national leadership of the APC to investigate what he described as irregularities surrounding the primary process in Bauchi State.
According to him, there was no evidence that any primary election took place across the senatorial district.
“You are all living witnesses. Where was the election conducted? Can anybody show any ward or polling unit where the exercise took place?” he asked.
The aspirant described the process as a “so-called primary,” insisting that due process was ignored during the selection exercise.
He alleged that some individuals within the party hijacked the process and said several questions surrounding the conduct of the primary remained unanswered.
Kundak explained that his press conference was aimed at drawing the attention of the APC leadership to what transpired in the state.
“That is why I am making this press conference, so that the APC leadership can investigate and find out the reality of what happened in Bauchi,” he stated.
He maintained that although some individuals had already declared themselves winners or candidates, the party leadership still had a responsibility to verify whether the process complied with APC guidelines.
Kundak said he joined the senatorial race following appeals from party stakeholders, community leaders, organisations, and APC supporters within the district.
He added that he had expected a transparent and credible primary election but was disappointed by the outcome.
“I was thinking there would be an elaborate and transparent process to make the primary possible, but now it has been hijacked by some people,” he said.
Despite his complaints, the aspirant expressed confidence in the future of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the crisis as an internal matter capable of being resolved.
“These are in-house problems, and once we can solve them, the APC will succeed in the 2027 elections,” he added.
