ASUU-FUOYE EMBARKS ON INDEFINITE STRIKE OVER UNPAID SALARIES
The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared an indefinite strike over the non-payment of lecturers’ salaries.
The decision was formally communicated on Thursday in a letter addressed to the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olubunmi Shittu.
The letter, signed by the branch Chairman, Dr. O. A. Fagbuagun, and the Financial Secretary, Mr. Ngwu Benitho, noted that the industrial action would continue until all outstanding salaries are settled.
According to the union’s leadership, the action follows a directive from the national body of ASUU.
The statement explained:
“The National Executive Council of ASUU resolved that where academic staff salaries are not paid by the third day of a new month, the affected branch must suspend academic activities until payment is made.
“In line with this resolution, ASUU-FUOYE has commenced strike action. The strike is total, comprehensive, and indefinite, and will only be called off once salaries are paid.”
