Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that the opposition coalition being built under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will stand firm in defending Nigerians against what he described as President Bola Tinubu’s emerging dictatorship.

Atiku made the assurance during separate meetings with Sokoto South Senator Aminu Tambuwal and former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

Taking to his X handle, Atiku wrote:

“We will be unrelenting in defending the rights of every Nigerian being harassed by anti-democratic forces of the Tinubu-led APC administration. The coalition we are pushing is aimed at rescuing our democracy from the stranglehold of this emerging dictatorship. We shall be deliberate in joining hands in saving our democracy.”

The former Vice President emphasized that the coalition will not only challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) but also work actively to safeguard civil liberties and democratic values.

Atiku’s remarks come amid rising political tension, with the opposition accusing the Tinubu administration of silencing dissent and undermining democratic institutions.

For Atiku, the coalition’s mission is clear: to unite forces across party lines and defend the Nigerian people from what he views as creeping authoritarianism.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
