AVIATION EXPERTS FAULT FG’S N60BN AIRLINE RELIEF PACKAGE
Aviation experts have criticised the Federal Government’s proposed N60 billion relief package for airlines, describing it as inadequate and poorly targeted amid ongoing challenges in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
Industry stakeholders say the intervention, while well-intentioned, may not significantly address the deeper structural issues facing airlines in Nigeria, including high operating costs, foreign exchange constraints, and fuel expenses.
They argue that the sector requires more comprehensive reforms rather than short-term financial relief, pointing to issues such as airport infrastructure deficits, regulatory bottlenecks, and limited access to affordable financing.
According to analysts, many domestic carriers continue to struggle with rising maintenance costs and dollar-denominated obligations, which make sustainability difficult despite periodic government interventions.
Some experts also warned that without clear accountability frameworks, relief funds risk being mismanaged or failing to achieve intended outcomes.
They called on the government to prioritize long-term aviation sector reforms, including improved policy consistency, local maintenance capacity, and better access to credit facilities.
The debate continues as stakeholders push for a more sustainable roadmap for Nigeria’s aviation industry.
