BALLON D’OR WIN ‘FEELS LIKE A DREAM’, SAYS KANE AS TRIBUTES POUR IN
Harry Kane says he is still taking in his first Ballon d’Or victory after being named the world’s best men’s footballer in London on Monday night.
The England captain and Bayern Munich striker beat competition from Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe to become the first English winner since Michael Owen in 2001.
Speaking on Tuesday, the 33-year-old described the achievement as dreamlike, saying he felt relief, joy and excitement when his name was announced.
Kane said the wait had been nerve-racking, making the moment he shared with those inside the London Palladium especially memorable.
The award followed an outstanding season in which he scored 73 goals in 65 appearances for club and country, helping Bayern secure a league and cup double.
He also scored six goals as England finished third at the World Cup in North America and collected the men’s striker of the year award alongside the Ballon d’Or.
Tributes followed his victory, with Wembley Stadium illuminated to celebrate the England captain’s achievement.
Prince William also congratulated Kane, praising his leadership, ability and the memorable moments he has given football supporters around the world.
