Farmers in Ilali village, Katsina State, have reportedly been asked to pay ₦5 million to bandits in exchange for safety and unhindered access to their farmlands during this year’s harvest.
Residents describe the demand as a “peace levy,” claiming it was imposed to guarantee protection from possible attacks while they work on their farms.
A security analyst, Bakatsine, shared the development in a post on X on Tuesday, stating that the demand was presented as a fee for peace and safe harvesting.
Authorities have not yet issued an official response regarding the situation.
