"BANDITS KILL POLICE OFFICER, LOOT MARKET IN KWARA’S BABANLA TOWN"
Babanla Under Siege: Police Officer Killed, Market Looted in Bandit Attack
Babanla town in Kwara State was thrown into chaos on Friday afternoon when about 200 armed bandits stormed the community, killing a police officer and looting the local market.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the attackers arrived on motorbikes around 1:00 p.m. and first targeted the Babanla Police Station. There, they shot dead ASP Adejumo Wasiu, an officer attached to ACPOL Offa, and took his AK-47 rifle.
Sources revealed that the police station was ransacked, but no other weapons were stolen as they were all on charge at the time of the attack.
After overpowering the station, the armed gang headed to the town’s market, where they looted large quantities of food items and goods, leaving traders and residents in shock.
A joint security team — including the military, police, vigilantes, and local hunters — was quickly mobilized and successfully repelled the attackers, restoring calm to the area.
As of now, there have been no confirmed reports of civilian casualties, but the incident has raised fresh concerns about security in rural communities across the state.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to track down those responsible.
