BAUCHI GOVT SETS UP COMMITTEE TO CURB CHOLERA OUTBREAK
The Bauchi State Government has taken urgent steps to curb the rising cases of cholera in the state by setting up a Cholera Steering and Technical Committee. The outbreak, which has already claimed several lives, has been described as a major public health threat requiring immediate action.
Speaking at the inauguration of the committee in Bauchi, Deputy Governor Auwal Jatau said the team was established to coordinate emergency response and also work on long-term solutions to stop future outbreaks.
He stressed that cholera can be prevented if the right measures are taken on time.
“Cholera outbreaks can be prevented if we act on time, work together, and improve water, sanitation, and hygiene,” Jatau said.
The deputy governor also noted that members of the committee were carefully selected based on their expertise and called on them to carry out their duties with commitment. He assured health partners that the government will provide full support to ensure the committee succeeds.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sani Dambam, who was appointed chairman of the technical committee, promised that members will work hand-in-hand to achieve their mandate of improving surveillance, detecting cases early, and saving lives.
The move comes as part of the state’s wider effort to strengthen its health system and protect residents from future outbreaks.
