BAYELSA EAST PDP ZONES 2027 SENATORIAL TICKET TO BRASS II
Political leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party in Bayelsa East Senatorial District have agreed to zone the party’s 2027 senatorial ticket to Brass Constituency II and reserve the 2031 ticket for Nembe Constituency II on a single four-year-term basis.
The resolution was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting held on Tuesday at the Yenagoa residence of the Bayelsa PDP Chairman, Alabh Turnah. The meeting was presided over by the Bayelsa East Senatorial District Vice Chairman of the party, Andy Majors.
Speaking after the meeting, Majors said the arrangement was adopted to promote peace, fairness, unity, inclusion, and balanced political representation across the district.
According to him, the senatorial seat rotation has followed a consistent pattern since 1999.
“The Senate seat rotation within the district has followed a stable and divinely guided progression since 1999,” he said.
Majors outlined the historical sequence of representation, beginning with Melford Okilo from Ogbia Constituency I, followed by Inatimi Spiff from Brass Constituency I, and Nimi Barigha Amange from Nembe Constituency I.
He added that the rotation later returned to Ogbia through Clever Ikisikpo, moved to Brass with Ben Murray-Bruce, and then to Nembe with Degi Ereminyo.
The current senator representing Bayelsa East, Benson Agadaga, is from Ogbia Constituency II.
Majors stated that based on the principle of equity, it was appropriate for Brass Constituency II to produce the PDP candidate in 2027 and Nembe Constituency II to take its turn in 2031.
He further announced that beginning from 2035, the party would discontinue zoning for the Bayelsa East senatorial ticket.
“Beginning from 2035, the Bayelsa East senatorial ticket of the PDP shall no longer be subjected to zoning or rotation,” he said.
According to him, future candidates would emerge based on competence, performance, capacity, and ability to provide effective representation.
The stakeholders also reaffirmed their support for the leadership of Turnah, commending him for promoting inclusiveness, stability, and unity within the party in Bayelsa State.
