BAYERN BEAT FREIBURG TO RECLAIM TOP SPOT AS KOMPANY REMAINS HOSPITALISED
Bayern Munich strengthened their position at the top of the Bundesliga with a 3–1 victory at Freiburg on Sunday while head coach Vincent Kompany remained in hospital.
Assistant coach Aaron Danks took charge as goals from Dayot Upamecano, Serge Gnabry and Michael Olise secured the away win.
Bayern established a two-goal lead before half-time, with Upamecano opening the scoring and Gnabry extending their advantage.
The result left them three points clear of Borussia Dortmund ahead of their meeting with their closest challengers.
The victory came during a difficult weekend for the club following Kompany’s collapse while watching a reserve-team training session on Friday.
Bayern said the Belgian was undergoing medical examinations and would remain under care while doctors investigated the cause.
Providing an update before the Freiburg match, Danks said Kompany was stable and improving, although further tests were continuing.
The club has not announced a return date, stressing that his health takes priority and that he will receive the time needed to recover.
His coaching staff will continue overseeing training and matches during his absence.
