A coalition of non-governmental organisations has donated a library and Information and Communication Technology equipment to children residing in a camp for internally displaced persons in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

The donation, made at the temporary accommodation located along the Makurdi/Gbamjinba Road, is aimed at supporting the education of over 1,100 displaced households currently sheltered at the facility.

The donor groups include K2U Puzzle, The Offshore Lab, and Smile Doctors Foundation.

Speaking during the presentation, leader of The Offshore Lab, Emeka Obiwulu, said the gesture was targeted at improving educational opportunities for children in communities disrupted by conflict.

“This intervention is meant to uplift the standard of education in areas that have experienced crisis and displacement,” Obiwulu said.

On his part, Martins Oloye of K2U Puzzle disclosed that the organisation provided a fully equipped library capable of seating 50 children at a time.

“The library comes with textbooks, notebooks, and other essential materials to help these children bridge the gap in access to quality education,” Oloye explained. “It is our goal to ensure that they face no further obstruction to learning.”

Also present at the event was Dr. Olufunmilayo Adeniyi of Smile Doctors Foundation, who provided oral health care services to the children at the camp.

All three organisations commended the state government for creating an enabling environment for humanitarian support.

In his remarks, Benue State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Fred Kyan, lauded the initiative and stressed the importance of educational support for displaced learners.

“This is a palliative measure to ensure that children in informal settings do not suffer learning loss. When they eventually return to their ancestral homes, they should be able to reintegrate into the formal school system with ease,” he said.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
