BIG MOVE OR BIG MISTAKE? OBODO URGES OSIMHEN TO RETHINK TRANSFER DEMANDS
Former Super Eagles midfielder Christian Obodo has advised Victor Osimhen to find a middle ground in his next career move, as speculation continues to swirl around the Napoli striker's future.
In a Tuesday interview with Brila.net, Obodo pointed out that Osimhen's hefty release clause and salary expectations are deterring top European clubs from making a move.
"Osimhen still wants to play in Europe and reach greater heights, but Napoli's demands — both the release clause and his wages — are scaring off potential suitors. No club wants to make a decision that could backfire," Obodo explained.
He also highlighted a broader issue with how Nigerian players are perceived compared to their South American counterparts.
"If Osimhen were Brazilian, top European clubs would have signed him long ago. Nigeria doesn't present its players well, and the way some Nigerians speak about their own is unfair," he said.
The former Udinese midfielder urged Osimhen to evaluate his choices carefully.
“In my view, Osimhen needs to make a compromise — either stay in Europe with a reduced offer or accept a move to Al Hilal for the financial gain. Whatever he decides, we can only hope it turns out to be the right choice,” he added.
Osimhen, 26, recently wrapped up a loan spell at Galatasaray in Turkey, where he netted 37 goals in 41 appearances. The Turkish club is reportedly eager to sign him permanently.
Meanwhile, the striker — who previously turned down a move to Saudi side Al Hilal — is also on the radar of several European giants, including Juventus, Arsenal, Chelsea, and reportedly Manchester United, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
