Amir Abu Fatima, a senior Boko Haram/ISWAP commander with a ₦100 million bounty on his head, was killed in a targeted military operation by Nigerian forces in Kukawa, Borno State. The Nigerian Army confirmed the news in a statement released Friday on its official X (formerly Twitter) account.

The operation took place on Thursday as part of Operation Hadin Kai, based on credible intelligence indicating the presence of high-ranking insurgents in the area. Special Forces led the raid, which resulted in the elimination of Abu Fatima, his deputy, several explosives experts, and other militants.

“In a major counter-terrorism achievement, Special Forces under Operation Hadin Kai executed a precision strike on May 30, 2025, targeting a critical Boko Haram/ISWAP base in the Kukawa axis of Northern Borno State,” the Army statement said.

Abu Fatima sustained fatal injuries during the firefight. “His deputy, several explosives specialists, and multiple terrorists were also neutralized during the engagement,” the statement added.

Security forces recovered a substantial cache of weapons and explosive-making materials from the site, including AK-47 rifles, ammunition magazines, assorted ordnance, and IED components.

The Army confirmed that none of its personnel were injured in the operation. “The mission was successfully carried out without casualties among our troops,” it said.

The military described the operation as a critical setback to terrorist activities in the region and reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace in Nigeria’s Northeast. “This operation deals a significant blow to terrorist leadership and underscores the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s dedication to peace and security in the region.”
