The Bayelsa State Police Command has begun an investigation into the killing of a Bolt driver whose body was discovered at Samphino Junction in the Kpansia area of Yenagoa, the state capital.

According to reports gathered by Punch Metro, the driver, believed to be middle-aged, was found dead inside his vehicle by passersby on Friday morning. The discovery prompted a swift police response, and the area was immediately secured.

This tragic incident occurred less than a week after the murder of 27-year-old Daniel Ayama, a graduate of the Federal University, Otuoke, who was attacked less than a kilometre from the latest crime scene.

Authorities suspect the driver may have been the target of a close-range assassination, as no personal belongings were reported missing from the vehicle.

Bayelsa Police Command spokesperson, Musa Mohammed, confirmed the incident and said a comprehensive investigation was underway.

“We are gathering all relevant intelligence. Our forensic team has visited the scene, and we are collaborating with Bolt to obtain trip records that could help identify those responsible,” he said.

In response to the killing, members of the drivers’ union and concerned stakeholders have urged the police to hasten their probe and bring the perpetrators to justice.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
