The Borno State Police Command has rescued one girl while 13 others remain in the hands of suspected insurgents after an abduction in Askira/Uba Local Government Area. A coordinated search-and-rescue operation has been launched to recover the remaining victims.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the 14 girls were seized on November 22 around 3:30 p.m. while working on a farmland in Mussa District. The command was alerted by the District Head of Huyum, who reported the abduction by armed terrorists.

Security operatives immediately deployed a joint team of police officers, Nigerian military personnel, Civilian JTF, and local vigilantes to the area. During the operation, one of the abducted girls managed to escape unharmed and was safely rescued. Search-and-rescue efforts are ongoing for the remaining 13 girls.

Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid urged residents to stay vigilant and cooperate fully with security agencies. He also advised farmers and rural dwellers to operate within the coverage of security patrols, assuring the public that further updates would be communicated as the operation progresses.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
