BRAITHWAITE: MESSI DIDN’T DESERVE THE WAY BARCELONA LET HIM GO

Former Barcelona forward, Martin Braithwaite, has spoken about Lionel Messi’s shocking exit from the Catalan giants, saying the Argentine legend did not deserve to leave the club in the manner he did.

Messi, widely regarded as Barcelona’s greatest-ever player, left the club in 2021 as a free agent after financial struggles prevented the renewal of his contract. His unexpected departure saw him join Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) before later moving to Inter Miami in Major League Soccer.

Speaking in a recent interview with GE (via Sportskeeda), Braithwaite admitted the exit came as a huge shock to the players.

“It was strange because it happened suddenly. We were all expecting him to renew, everything was ready for the contract renewal, and suddenly he left the club,” he said.

The Danish striker praised Messi’s personality both on and off the pitch, describing him as humble and supportive.

“Leo is a very lovable person. He helps us, and you feel comfortable with him. He was very calm. As for Leo as a player, I think I don’t need to say anything,” Braithwaite added.

Reflecting on the chapter, Braithwaite insisted Messi’s exit was unworthy of his legacy.

“He didn’t deserve that. I hope he can play his last match there because he truly deserves it.”

Messi, now 38, has often expressed his desire to return to Barcelona someday, even if not as a player. Fans across the globe share Braithwaite’s wish that the legendary No.10 gets a fitting farewell at the Camp Nou.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
