Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday attended the African Democratic Congress (ADC) stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, joining a host of influential political figures ahead of the 2027 elections.

The high-profile gathering, which took place in the Federal Capital Territory, drew notable attendees such as former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai; former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; ex-Communications Minister, Isa Ali Pantami; and former Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed.

In a statement shared via his official X handle on Thursday, Atiku described the meeting as a coalition of patriotic Nigerians determined to confront the forces undermining the country’s growth.

“I am currently at the stakeholders’ meeting of the Coalition African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja. It’s a meeting of the Nigerian people against the oligarchs who promote poverty and insecurity in the land,” Atiku declared.

The presence of Atiku and other heavyweight politicians signals ADC’s growing relevance as a coalition platform and possible alliance hub for opposition forces preparing to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

While details of the closed-door discussions remain under wraps, political analysts believe the meeting could be a critical step towards building a broad-based coalition capable of reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the next general elections.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
