The Benue State House of Assembly has announced a major shake-up in its leadership, dissolving the former team of principal officers and appointing new lawmakers to key positions.

In a statement released on Thursday, September 11, 2025, by Zape Michael Upaa, Press Secretary to the Speaker, the new leadership structure was unveiled.

According to the statement, Thomas Dugeri has been appointed Majority Leader, while Abraham Jabi will serve as Deputy Majority Leader. Cyril Ikong is now the Majority Chief Whip, with Simon Gabo as Deputy Majority Whip.

On the minority side, Abu Umoro has been named Minority Leader, supported by Cephase Dyako as Deputy Minority Leader. Samuel Jiji will serve as Minority Whip, while Moses Egbodo takes the role of Deputy Minority Whip.

The Assembly noted that further details on the reorganisation would be made public in due course.

The leadership reshuffle signals a new phase in the legislative agenda of the Benue Assembly, as the newly appointed officers are expected to work closely with the Speaker to drive the state’s legislative priorities.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
