The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has declared a five-day nationwide warning strike to press home their demands.

The strike, announced in a statement by Agbor Affiong, General Secretary of the Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory Administration, will run from Friday, 12th September 2025, to Tuesday, 16th September 2025.

The decision was reached after NARD’s online National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, which lasted into the early hours of Thursday, 11th September 2025.

“All centres are hereby directed to duly inform their hospital managements and continue to press home our collective demands,” the statement read.

Earlier this week, NARD President Osundara Zenith confirmed that members were prepared to shut down public hospitals across the country. Their grievances include:

Poor working conditions

Shortage of medical staff

Inadequate power supply in hospitals

Downgrading of certificates

Poor remuneration

It was also noted that doctors in the FCT branch of ARD are already on a seven-day warning strike, which began on Monday.

The planned nationwide action is expected to further strain healthcare services, raising concerns among patients and the general public.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
